Last weekend Action Paintball gave host to the first of the PSFA's new State Challenge Series matches, which saw players from both New South Wales and Queensland donning their State colours and going head-to-head in an action-packed match complete with lights, cheering spectators, air horns and much, much more! The match was full of many action-packed moments, with both teams battling it out in some very close points. New South Wales was the ultimate victor though, with them taking home the bragging rites this round with a 4 – 0 victory over Queensland.
The State Challenge Series has been created by the PSFA as a way to bring some fun and crowd participation back into our sport. Played under the spotlights, players from every team joined in on the side-lines
, cheering on their friends and rivals, calling out codes and player positions, and participating anyway they could to give their home State the advantage. Gone were the quiet pits and frustrated nerves that usually surround a paintball match; for just a moment the bush of Yarramundi was its own miniature MCG, complete with roaring crowds enjoying the thrill of the sport just as much as the players on the field!
Feedback from the players and spectators was all overwhelmingly positive, with some spectators even commenting that they wished that regular tournaments allowed fans to have the same sort of interaction during matches. The State Challenge Series will continue with the next match to be played the NXL Cairns event at Southside Paintball on August 15th where we will see New South Wales have a rematch with the Queenslanders on their home turf!
